Types of Pavers We Install

Travertine Pavers

Travertine pavers are perfect for Arizona yards because they naturally stay cooler than other types of pavers.

They're easy on bare feet, great around pools and on patios, and handle heat without cracking.

Plus, travertine looks great with desert landscaping or turf, giving any patio or pool deck a timeless, yet modern feel.

Limestone Pavers

Like travertine, limestone forms naturally, but instead of coming from springs, lakes, and river beds, limestone develops at the ocean floor.

Limestone pavers are hard-wearing, and easy to keep clean.

If you’re looking for something that looks stylish without overheating in the sun, limestone is a great pick.

Marble Pavers

Marble pavers instantly make patios and outdoor areas feel luxurious.

They have a smooth, polished look, yet they're tough enough for Arizona's hot climate.

If you want something upscale that stays cooler than concrete, marble pavers give style and practicality in one package.

Concrete Pavers

Concrete pavers offer the most flexibility in design, colors, and styles.

They're durable, affordable, and easy to maintain—perfect if you want something dependable without overspending.

With concrete, you can quickly match your home or landscape, keeping things neat, simple, and built to last.

Brick Pavers

Brick pavers offer a timeless look, but many modern options are actually made from concrete and colored to resemble traditional clay.

They’re strong, slip-resistant, and easy to repair if anything shifts over time.

They work well for walkways, patios, and driveways—especially if you like a classic look.

Landscaping Ideas For Pavers

Paver Driveways

Pavers are a great choice for driveways in the Phoenix area.

They’re built to handle weight, heat, and constant use without shifting or wearing out fast.

But remember! A product is only as good as its installation. Here at Apex Turf, we install paver driveways to last.

All of our installs include a super compacted base layer, and extra perimeter cement to ensure nothing shifts, and your driveway is there for the long-haul.

Paver Patios

Paver patios create a solid foundation for whatever you’ve got going on outside—shade sails, fire pits, patio furniture, you name it.

There’s a lot of room to play with paver colors, textures, and patterns. Travertine gives a more natural, high-end look. Concrete pavers keep things clean and simple. Brick adds a more classic feel.

We can lay them in herringbone, running bond, basketweave—whatever fits your style.

Some of our customers love borders and contrast, others keep it soft and subtle.

Paver Pool Decks

Here at Apex, we build every pool deck with proper drainage, tight joints, and a compacted base that keeps everything level - no shifting or settling.

Travertine or limestone are popular picks for pool areas because they stay cooler than most materials. But concrete and brick pavers also work great and can be shaped into just about any layout.

We can keep it simple, or use borders, patterns, and curves to match the look of your yard. It’s all in the details.

Pavers With Artificial Turf

Mixing pavers with artificial turf is a great way to break things up visually and soften the look of hardscape areas.

You get clean lines from the stone and a bit of green in between, without the upkeep of real grass.

Pavers and artificial grass work especially well for patios, walkways, pool areas, and even driveways.

We can space the pavers tight or wide, straight or curved, depending on the look you’re going for. It’s one of those combos that just works in the desert.

Paver Walkways

Paver walkways help guide the flow of your yard while keeping things clean and easy to walk on.

Whether you're connecting the driveway to the front door or winding a path through the backyard, Apex installs walkways that feel intentional without feeling overbuilt.

We can go with straight lines, gentle curves, tight spacing, or even break it up with turf or gravel.

A paver walkway is a small detail that makes a big difference.

Paver Borders

Paver borders really put the final touch on your landscaping.

They help define edges, keep gravel or turf in place, and give patios, walkways, and garden beds a finished look.

At Apex Turf, we’ve installed hundreds of thousands of square feet of turf, and paver borders are almost always part of the job.

We know how to set them right so they last. No shifting, no spreading, just clean lines that hold up over time.

FAQ's About Pavers in Phoenix AZ

Limestone and travertine may look similar, but they’re formed differently and have distinct features. Limestone forms from compacted seashells and marine life, giving it a smooth, dense surface with fewer holes.
Travertine forms near mineral springs and has natural pits and texture that give it a more porous look.

Color-wise, limestone usually comes in soft shades of beige, gray, cream, or white. Travertine tends to have warmer tones—like ivory, walnut, or gold—with more natural variation between pieces.

Travertine stays a bit cooler underfoot than limestone, which makes it a popular choice for pool decks and sunny patios. Limestone works great for walkways, courtyards, and other areas where a clean, even surface is the goal.

Both handle Arizona’s climate well—it mostly comes down to style and where you’re planning to use them.

Yes, some do - but it depends on the material and color.

Darker pavers and dense materials like concrete can get pretty hot in direct sun, especially in the summer.

Natural stones like travertine and limestone tend to stay cooler underfoot, which is why they’re popular around pools and patios where people walk barefoot.

Lighter colors also reflect more sunlight and stay noticeably cooler than darker shades.

If heat is a concern, we’d be happy to help you pick a paver that is naturally cooler.

Sealing pavers isn’t required, but it can help - especially here in Arizona.

A good sealer can protect against, stains, and surface wear from the sun, pool chemicals, or oil. It also helps lock in joint sand, which keeps weeds and ants from creeping in.

That said, not everyone chooses to seal.

Some people prefer the natural look, especially with materials like travertine or limestone.

We’d be happy to walk you through the pros and cons so you can decide what makes the most sense for your pavers.

Absolutely. Mixing paver types is a great way to add contrast, break up large areas, or highlight certain features - like using travertine around the pool and concrete pavers for the surrounding patio.

We’ve done projects where multiple materials work together in one space, and it looks great when done right.

If you scroll up this page, you’ll find a few examples with photos above, where you can see how different textures and colors can play off each other.

If you’ve got an idea, let us know! We can help you bring it to life.

Tumbled pavers have a softer, more weathered look.

The edges are gently worn down during a tumbling process, which gives the surface a natural, aged finish. The look is often referred to as "cobblestone".

This is especially common with concrete pavers.

Non-tumbled pavers have sharper edges and a cleaner, more uniform appearance. They work well for modern styles or areas where you want crisp lines.

Both types are strong and durable. It really comes down to the feel you’re going for.

Not really.

Pavers are a low-maintenance material compared to a lot of other surfaces.

Most of the time, a quick sweep or rinse is all it takes to keep them looking good.

If a paver gets stained or damaged, we can just pop it out and replace it - no need to redo the whole area (unlike concrete).

Weeds and ants can be an issue if the joints aren’t sealed properly, but we use polymeric sand and compact everything tight to help prevent that from the start.

Some people choose to seal their pavers every few years, but that depends on the type of paver you have, and the look you're going for.

Travertine is the go-to for most pool decks in Arizona.

It stays cooler underfoot, has a natural non-slip surface, and handles water, heat, and chemicals very well.

Limestone is another great option, however it's slightly smoother, than travertine, making it just a little bit more slippery.

If you're looking for something more budget-friendly, textured concrete pavers work well too, especially in lighter colors.

The key is choosing a material that won’t get too hot, isn’t slippery, and can handle constant sun and splashing.

At Apex Turf, we’ve installed all of the above and can help you find the right fit.

Marble can be slipper, especially if it's polished.

Marble has a naturally smooth surface, and when it gets wet, it can become slick.

That’s why we generally don’t recommend it for pool decks.

That said, marble has some real upsides.

It has a clean, high-end look that’s hard to beat, especially if you’re going for something modern or formal.

It also stays relatively cool underfoot and comes in a range of tones.

We’ve found that marble works best in covered patios, shaded courtyards, or entryways.

Places where you want that upscale look without the risk of slipping.

With the right finish and location, it can be a beautiful and practical choice.
